My practice focuses on the urban environment, I explore architecture and centre my work on the interiors of buildings in the greater Belfast area.  I am primarily concerned with the composition of the image and the physicality of the space, rather than narrative.  I am attracted to linear and geometric shapes and sharp angles within architecture reminiscent of 1930s Constructivist photography.  The focus within my practice is the conceptual deconstruction and destabilisation of space.  I control the space by fragmentation of the subject matter and through careful consideration of composition in order to create a sense of disorientation on the picture plane.  I juxtapose depth of field and surface area to create a constant shift of planes and fragment the subject into geometric sections.   My practice investigates the use of photography as a subversive act, which alters the perception of space as the lens frames and therefore interprets and categorises space.  The aesthetic of dereliction within the modern urban environment subverts the aesthetic of the modern metropolis.
