artist's statement

My practice engages with  architectural space in the urban  environment in the greater Belfast  area. The focus within my practice is  the conceptual deconstruction and  destabilization of space. I control the  space by visual disruption of the  subject matter and through careful consideration of composition in order to create a sense of disorientation of the picture plane. I juxtapose depth of field and surface area to create a constant shift of planes and fragment the subject into geometric sections. My practice investigates the use of photography to alter the perception of space as the lens frames and therefore interprets space, thus creating an illusionary or unreal space.
