My Love,
Guess what....I am making paper boats now. I’m trying to create
my own geography of the space they inhabit. Do you think I will be able
to control how they’re perceived away from their natural habitat?
I’m finding it funny that I’m seeing these pieces the same
way as I do paintings, but I think they’re paintings that create
a conversation with where they are, and who’s looking at them.
I’m beginning to think of this project as a strange drawing onto
certain spaces – a playful, melancholic and poetic reinvention
– like you can take a space and project onto it using a narrative
derived from paper boats! Today I sat dripping wet in a crowded pub,
pouring over a map of the local area that is scrawled with notes of
abandoned journey and installation plans, laughing to myself about
“typical Irish weather”. I think I’ll stick with
using architectural spaces so I can try and use that sense of unease
and disharmony to tell a story, after all, what’s the quote of
Baron Munchausen that Terry Gilliam used in his film we watched
that day? Ah, it was OUT OF LYING TO THE TRUTH. That could very well be
my strategy here.
Best wishes –
Lindsey.
