artist's
statement
My work incorporates performative actions and processes with
photography, video, site-specific gallery and context-based
installations and interventions. These can be seen as a series of
experiments into phenomenological concepts of perception, meaning,
belief, actuality and how we engage with the world we inhabit.
Current practice focuses this approach into engaging solely with the
image, combining still and moving images with performative elements
introduced either by post-production edits or as anterior
interventions. In taking features of performance art (such as
participation and intervention) and combining them with imaging, the
process serves up a disruption of the representational (that which
refers to or stands in for) by introducing a condition of actuality
into the image and creating a space to demonstrate rather than
illustrate. By looking at how we encounter an image, from
representational signs and signifiers to more experiential means, this
methodology opens up the conditions necessary for what we deem actual.
